“For years, Area X has remained mysterious and remote behind its intangible border – an environmental disaster zone, though to all appearances an abundant wilderness. The Southern Reach, a secretive government agency, has sent eleven expeditions to investigate it. One has ended in mass suicide, another in a hail of gunfire, the eleventh in a fatal cancer epidemic.
Now four women embark on the twelfth expedition into the unknown”
This is a book that was a spur of the moment buy for me, with a little bit of persuasion thanks to Jen, as she has been talking about this book and the series to me for a while now. This is also the reason why I have picked it up and decided to read it now and have taken it off of my TBR pile. I need to read it!! I know that it has been made into a movie-adaptation, which I haven’t seen, but I have been told that it isn’t as good as the book.
This book is such a short read and is the perfect choice if anyone is planning any read-a-thons, plus it’s an easy book to get in to. It is a bit of a strange one, maybe that is an understatement, to the point that I feel like I need to go back and re-read it. But I am first going to continue on with this series to see how and where this series is going to go and see if this all makes any more sense. My head has somewhat gotten around what has happened and what is happening within this book, I say this with a tiny grain of salt, but I do want to continue reading the rest of the series and see where it’s going to go. I am interested to see where book 2 is going to pick up from and from whose point of view.
What I love when it comes to books, movies etc, is a good mystery and this book has it in buckets. This mystery adds to the suspense and this is what kept me reading, even through the weirdness. It’s this mystery and suspense that is making me so eager to continue on with this series and I will be continuing on, excitingly so. Let’s Just hope for answers.
